Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Hogan / COBOL Developer to join a leading banking technology team responsible for the development, enhancement, support, and maintenance of core banking systems. The successful candidate will work on mission-critical applications within the Hogan banking platform, supporting retail and commercial banking operations while ensuring system stability, performance, and regulatory compliance.
This role requires strong mainframe development experience, deep understanding of banking systems, and the ability to work across the full software development lifecycle in a highly regulated financial services environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance, maintain, and support applications within the Hogan banking platform.
- Perform COBOL development on IBM mainframe environments.
- Analyse business and technical requirements and translate them into functional solutions.
- Support core banking functions including customer accounts, deposits, loans, payments, and transaction processing.
- Conduct impact assessments and provide estimates for system changes and enhancements.
- Participate in system integration activities and interface development with upstream and downstream banking systems.
- Troubleshoot production issues and provide timely resolution for defects and incidents.
- Execute unit testing, system testing, and support user acceptance testing (UAT).
- Ensure adherence to banking security, governance, audit, and compliance standards.
- Collaborate with Business Analysts, Solution Architects, QA teams, and Infrastructure teams.
- Participate in change management, release management, and production deployment activities.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation and support knowledge transfer activities.
- Contribute to system modernisation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Technical Skills
- Strong experience in:
- COBOL development
- Hogan Banking System
- IBM Mainframe technologies
- JCL
- CICS
- DB2
- VSAM
- Experience with batch processing and online transaction systems.
- Understanding of SDLC methodologies including Agile and Waterfall.
- Experience with version control and deployment processes in enterprise environments.
- Knowledge of API integration and modernisation initiatives advantageous.
- Familiarity with banking architecture and legacy system integration.
Banking Domain Experience
- Experience within banking or financial services environments is essential.
- Strong understanding of:
- Core banking systems
- Deposits and loans
- Payments and transaction processing
- Customer account management
- Regulatory and compliance requirements
Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
- Relevant mainframe or Hogan certifications advantageous.
Experience Required
- 5+ years’ experience in COBOL/Mainframe development.
- 3+ years working with the Hogan Banking Platform.
- Proven experience working in enterprise banking environments.
