Apex Support Engineer Role

Overview
Weʼre looking for a motivated, hands-on engineer to join our Internal Developer Platform (IDP) team. The IDP is the backbone of how product teams build, deploy, and operate software. This role will help reduce day-to-day support noise, accelerate upcoming platform migrations, and contribute to our disaster recovery (DR) readiness.
Youʼll work with a modern platform engineering stack—Kubernetes, GitOps, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native tooling - making this a great opportunity for someone eager to deepen their platform engineering and DevOps skillset.

Key Objectives (During the Engagement)
1. Reduce Operational & Support Burden
·       Take ownership of first-line and second-line support for IDP components (CI/CD, pipelines,
·       developer onboarding, platform tooling).
·       Troubleshoot issues across build, deploy, and runtime environments.
·       Build or refine operational runbooks, automated checks, and self-service tooling.
·       Identify recurring issues and raise engineering fixes or automation opportunities.

2. Support Platform Migrations & Modernisation (0–6 months)
·       Assist with migration of workloads, pipelines, or development teams onto updated IDP
·       foundations (e.g., new Kubernetes clusters, GitOps workflows, or cloud environments).
·       Validate new platform capabilities, tooling integrations, and developer experiences.
·       Work with engineering teams to ensure smooth cutovers, artefact integrity, and minimal
·       downtime.
·       Contribute automation or scripting to streamline repeatable migration tasks.

3. Participate in Disaster Recovery (DR) Testing & Resilience Work (3–6 months)
·       Assist in planning and executing DR exercises for platform components.
·       Validate environment failover, cluster recovery, pipeline rebuild steps, and service rehydration.
·       Document findings and highlight resilience gaps or improvements.
·       Support post-DR remediation and hardening activities.
·       Technical Environment Exposure
·       Kubernetes, Helm, ArgoCD/GitOps workflows
·       CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Tekton, or equivalent)
·       Cloud infrastructure (AWS)
·       Monitoring/observability (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Splunk, OpenTelemetry)
·       Scripting/automation
·       Infrastructure-as-Code
·       Ideal Skills & Experience
·       Experience supporting platform engineering, DevOps, or cloud infrastructure.
·       Understanding of containers, clusters, and CI/CD pipelines.
·       Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on reducing toil.
·       Ability to collaborate with developers and platform engineers.
·       Willingness to learn new tooling and contribute to platform improvements.
·       Why This Role Is Interesting
·       Direct exposure to the tools and systems powering engineering teams across the
·       organisation.
·       Hands-on involvement with Kubernetes, GitOps, automation, and platform architecture.
·       Impactful work: every improvement helps dozens of dev teams ship software faster and safer.
·       Opportunity to learn modern platform engineering at scale.
