Role

Role Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Databricks Workspace Administrator to own and operate our Databricks platform at scale. This role is responsible for workspace governance, catalog and identity management, and direct engagement with tenant teams to enable analytics, AI, and Generative AI workloads safely and efficiently.
This role is not a pure infrastructure or ticket-based admin role. It sits at the intersection of platform engineering, governance, and tenant enablement—ensuring Databricks workspaces are secure, well-structured, and easy for teams to onboard and scale.
Secondary work if the above dries up would be high level admin tasks to fine-detailed monitoring and alerting dashboards/pipelines that can benefit all tenants on the workspace. As an example, they could set up alerting on App usage metrics, LLM rate limits/token usage, dashboards on inference tables for teams to use for anomaly/drift detection and so on.
Key Responsibilities
  • Databricks Workspace & Platform Administration: act as Workspace Admin; manage access controls, cluster policies, and job permissions; enforce standards for environment separation, guardrails, and cost/usage controls.
  • SQL experience and dashboard development/maintenance
  • Catalog & Governance Management: design, create, and manage Unity Catalog structures (catalogs, schemas, tables/views); implement and maintain permission models aligned to governance standards.
  • Identity & Service Principal Management: create and manage service principals, groups, and permission assignments; support non-human identities for CI/CD, automation, and integrations; partner with identity/security teams to ensure least-privilege access and auditability.
  • Tenant Enablement & Engagement: onboard and support tenant teams; run enablement sessions to understand use cases and recommend workspace/catalog/access patterns; provide guidance on best practices for analytics, ML, and GenAI workloads.
  • Platform Support & Continuous Improvement: troubleshoot platform configuration and access issues; maintain runbooks and documentation; identify recurring issues and drive automation and standardisation.
  • Development and maintenance of platform monitoring and alerting
Required Skills & Experience
  • Hands-on experience as a Databricks Workspace Admin.
  • Experience managing users, groups, and service principals, including least-privilege access models.
  • Solid understanding of how data engineering, analytics, and AI/ML teams consume platform services.
  • Experience operating in an enterprise and/or regulated environment with strong governance requirements.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort engaging directly with multiple tenant teams.
  • Hive/Glue and JDBC data pipeline setup/maintenance within the Databricks ecosystem
Desirable Experience
  • Experience supporting ML / Generative AI workloads on Databricks (e.g., RAG-style data patterns, model serving, evaluation workflows).
  • Experience integrating Databricks with CI/CD and automation patterns.
  • Familiarity with cloud platform concepts (AWS or Azure) relevant to Databricks operations.
  • Experience contributing to platform standards, templates, and self-service onboarding.
Ways of Working
  • Hands-on, delivery-focused, and comfortable working across governance and enablement.
  • Balances platform control with tenant productivity and speed.
  • Proactive documentation mindset (runbooks, onboarding guides, standards).
