Role Overview

The successful candidate will join the AWS In-App Calling Squad, responsible for designing, developing, and operating secure, scalable backend services that enable voice communication capabilities within digital banking channels. This role focuses on building cloud-native Java applications, real-time communication services, APIs, and integrations that support secure customer interactions through the bank's mobile application.

The ideal candidate combines strong Java engineering expertise with experience in AWS cloud technologies, distributed systems, and secure banking platforms.

Responsibilities
  1. Design, develop, and maintain high-performance Java-based backend services supporting mobile banking and in-app calling capabilities.
  2. Build and enhance real-time communication platforms that enable secure customer-to-agent and customer-to-customer interactions within banking applications.
  3. Design and implement scalable microservices and APIs supporting voice communication and digital banking services.
  4. Collaborate with mobile developers, solution architects, product owners, QA teams, and business stakeholders to deliver secure and reliable customer experiences.
  5. Develop and maintain integrations with AWS cloud services, communication platforms, and enterprise banking systems.
  6. Design, implement, and support event-driven and serverless architectures using AWS services.
  7. Ensure solutions meet banking requirements for security, compliance, resilience, performance, and auditability.
  8. Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize service performance, availability, latency, and operational stability.
  9. Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical design sessions to promote engineering excellence.
  10. Drive automation, observability, and operational best practices across the application lifecycle.
  11. Contribute to Agile ceremonies and continuous improvement initiatives within the squad.
  12. Stay current with emerging Java, AWS, cloud-native, and real-time communication technologies.
Required Skills

Technical & Domain Skills

  1. Strong experience developing enterprise-grade Java applications using Java 11/17+.
  2. Extensive experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and microservices architectures.
  3. Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, event-driven architectures, and distributed systems.
  4. Experience developing and supporting real-time communication platforms, including voice, VoIP, WebRTC, or similar technologies.
  5. Knowledge of communication protocols such as WebRTC, SIP, RTP, and call signaling concepts.
  6. Strong experience with AWS cloud services
  7. Experience building and deploying cloud-native applications using containerized platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  8. Experience implementing secure authentication and authorization using OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, AWS Cognito, or similar technologies.
  9. Strong understanding of secure software development principles and enterprise security patterns.
  10. Experience building resilient, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems in regulated environments.
  11. Knowledge of payments and banking ecosystems, including ISO 8583 and ISO 20022, is advantageous.
  12. Understanding of banking security and compliance standards, including OWASP, PCI DSS, and secure coding practices.
  13. Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools such as: 

  14. Experience with application monitoring, logging, and observability tools including AWS CloudWatch, ELK, Grafana, and distributed tracing solutions.

Qualifications & Experience
  1. Bachelor's Degree or Advanced Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, or a related field.
  2. Minimum 8+ years of Java development experience (5+ years for Intermediate consideration).
  3. Proven experience building and supporting large-scale enterprise applications.
  4. Experience working in AWS-focused engineering teams delivering cloud-native solutions.
  5. Experience implementing and supporting highly available production systems.
  6. Experience working within Agile delivery environments, including Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe.
  7. Previous experience in banking, fintech, payments, or regulated financial services environments is highly desirable.
  8. Experience developing secure customer communication, contact centre, or digital engagement solutions is advantageous.
