Role Overview
The successful candidate will join the AWS In-App Calling Squad, responsible for designing, developing, and operating secure, scalable voice communication capabilities within digital banking channels. The role requires deep expertise in iOS development, cloud-native architectures, AWS services, and real-time communication technologies while ensuring compliance with banking security, privacy, and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality iOS applications that enable modern, secure payment capabilities and digital banking experiences.
• Design, develop, and maintain secure in-app voice calling capabilities, delivering seamless customer-to-agent and customer-to-customer communication experiences.
• Architect scalable, maintainable iOS solutions within a multi-team, enterprise banking environment.
• Collaborate with the AWS In-App Calling Squad, product managers, backend engineers, QA teams, UX designers, and business stakeholders to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
• Implement and maintain integrations with AWS communication services, APIs, backend platforms, and real-time communication services.
• Ensure iOS applications and communication services meet security, performance, reliability, compliance, and audit requirements.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize call quality, latency, reliability, and performance across mobile applications and backend services.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of resilient, scalable architectures supporting high-volume in-app calling workloads.
• Stay current with the latest iOS technologies, AWS cloud services, communication frameworks, and Apple platform updates.
Required Skills
Technical & Domain Skills
1. Strong experience building production-grade iOS applications in enterprise environments.
2. Solid understanding of iOS architecture patterns (MVVM, MVC, Clean Architecture).
3. Proficiency in Swift and/or Objective-C; familiarity with C#, .NET MAUI, or Xamarin is advantageous.
4. Experience developing mobile applications that support real-time communications, including voice, VoIP, WebRTC, or in-app calling features.
5. Strong understanding of AWS cloud services, including: 
o Amazon Chime SDK
o Amazon Connect
o AWS Lambda
o API Gateway
o AWS CloudWatch
o AWS IAM
o ECS/EKS
o Serverless architectures
6. Experience integrating mobile applications with AWS-based communication platforms and backend services.
7. Knowledge of WebRTC, SIP, RTP, call signaling, media streaming, and voice communication protocols.
8. Solid understanding of mobile application integrations with REST APIs, event-driven services, and request/response models.
9. Experience implementing secure authentication and authorization using OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, AWS Cognito, or equivalent identity platforms.
10. Understanding of mobile network factors affecting voice quality, including latency, packet loss, jitter, and bandwidth optimization.
11. Strong understanding of payments, security, and compliance standards, including the payments ecosystem (ISO 8583, ISO 20022), payment security frameworks (OWASP, PCI DSS, PA-DSS), cybersecurity principles, mobile security best practices, encryption, TLS, certificate management, secure key storage, and end-to-end communication security.
12. Proficiency in iOS development tooling and software engineering practices
13. Experience building resilient, high-performance mobile and cloud-native solutions, including software testing methodologies (unit, integration, performance, and UI testing), automated testing frameworks, performance optimization, and the design of highly available, fault-tolerant solutions within regulated enterprise environments.

Qualifications & Experience
1. Bachelor's Degree or Advanced Diploma in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
2. Excellent understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, software design, and design patterns.
3. Minimum 8+ years of experience as a Senior iOS Developer (5+ years for Intermediate consideration).
4. Proven ability to write robust, efficient, scalable, and maintainable production-grade code.
5. Experience developing and operating applications across iOS platforms, with exposure to Linux and Windows environments considered advantageous.
6. Proven experience working within an AWS-focused mobile engineering team or squad, delivering cloud-native mobile solutions.
7. Experience developing or supporting in-app calling, customer engagement, contact centre, or real-time communication solutions.
8. Experience working in Agile delivery environments, including Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe methodologies.
9. Previous experience within the banking, fintech, payments, or regulated financial services industry is highly desirable.
10. Experience with Amazon Connect, Amazon Chime SDK, or similar enterprise communication platforms is highly preferred.
